DIY Thread Frame

I must say that untangling thread is one of the most annoying things to do, when all you want is to sit down at your machine and get sewing.

I have eyed those thread storage racks that you can get at fabric stores for a couple of years.  I have never wanted to pay the price they ask for them, though.

I have had this idea in the back of my mind for a while.  So when I came across this frame at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.

First, I looked at my plastic thread storage case I had to see the distance between the pegs.  They each seemed to be about 1 3/4 " apart.  So I measured out the distance on the board backing, leaving a little on the edges to be able to replace the frame.

Here is the distance between the pegs, but I actually left about 1/2" more room
around the edges for the frame.

After I had it all marked, I nailed a 2" nail on all the spots.  (Sorry about the shadows, I kept trying to get a different angle so as not to get as long of shadows, but the sun wouldn't co-operate. :0)

Then, I primed and painted the frame.  I did two coats with .99 black spray paint from Walmart (shiny, not matte).  Next, I color-coded my thread on the pegs (of course), and hung it up.

For the time being I hung it with a wire on the back of my sewing closet.  I think I will change that though, in order to hang it a little closer to the wall.
