Celebrate your child's art with this Pottery Barn - inspired picture frame. I love how the elegant and rustic come together.
My kids love to draw. Being the youngest, at 8 years old, Carter has often been upset that he couldn't draw something as nice as his brother or sister. All that changed when one day he came home from school with a picture he had drawn in art class. I was so surprised that he had actually drawn the picture he was showing me! I began asking him how he drew it, what the teacher had taught him that day, etc... He looked at me and said, "Mommy, she just told me how to do it, and I did!" I don't know exactly what his art teacher told him, but something must've clicked because he has been doing a great job ever since.
In order to take full advantage of his new skill, I decided it was time to make it special. Not too long ago I had walked through a Pottery Barn Home where I saw a picture similar to this. A shinny black frame, burlap matting, and a "penciled" drawing.
It has been several weeks since he drew this parakeet. He still walks up to the picture and exclaims, "I can't believe I drew that!" :0)

Carter and I picked out a picture that was somewhat simple to draw. He sat down right then and there and began drawing. When he was finished, I simply went over his pencil with a thin sharpie in order for the drawing to be more visible. To create the matting, I cut the square from a cereal box and wrapped it in burlap. We found a frame at a second hand store, spray painted it a glossy black, and wa-la - we had a real work of art!
